Q+A

1. Design Intent:
With all projects the design intent varies from project to project but still needs to maintain an overall design attitude that  is relevant to each particular job. We develop the design from initial conceptual ideas that through a progression of testing & elimination lead to the refined product. Usually the Marblo® component of the project is a strong visual element that requires expression through the range of colour and surface finish available.

2. Why specify Marblo®:
We have found the durability, colour and flexibility of Marblo® to be highly beneficial for a range of commercial & residential projects. From commercial bar / cafe bench tops, wall panels or backlit partitions to domestic applications for kitchens & bathrooms we have been very satisfied with the results. Marlbo not only provides a durable smooth finish but the range of colour and texture available is outstanding.

 3. Benefits of using Marblo®:
As well as what has been mentioned above, one of the great benefits of marblo is its flexibility of use and application where different shapes, curves and forms can be produced. The potential use of light against the soft finish of the product is also a highly desirable application. Also the durability of the material that allows for buffing out any surface scratches or blemishes through use, is of great benefit.

Q+A

1. Overall, what was your design intent / aspirations on the project?
The key design intent for the Gelatissimo projects was to evoke an Italian feeling. It was decided very early on in the piece to evoke a sense of modern Italy, rather than the traditional – and from the earliest design concepts, Marblo® seemed to work perfectly to assist in conveying this

2. Why was Marblo® specified? / What benefits did then use of Marblo® bring to the project?
The initial concepts were designed for the site at Manly Wharf – an open space within a newly restored heritage building. Marblo’s ability to be thermoformed and seamlessly joined, in addition to it’s durability made it the perfect choice for the application.

As there was no opportunity for ceiling illumination, the lighting came from within the kiosk itself. A neutral coloured Marblo® was selected and rear illuminated - providing the perfect opportunity to draw attention to the store, without over-powering or competing with the merchandise.

Marblo® was specified for its durability and aesthetic qualities – no other resin-based material achieves the level of consistency throughout the product that Marblo does in their opalescent range. It captures and rebounds the light, achieving a beauty that no other product on the market can match.

Whilst the Manly store was the initial prototype for the brand, the use of Marblo® has remained an integral and fundamental part of the Gelatissimo brand identity throughout its various applications. We exported the product to Korea, Indonesia & Singapore for Gelatissimo’s international outlets, as there was simply nothing available in the local markets offshore that stood up to the Marblo® product range.

In the Bondi Junction store, Marblo® was able to recreate a perfect match to the corporate colour for its signage application. When rear illuminated, the opalescent Marblo® range achieves a softness to the glow that cannot be achieved with acrylics.

We find that Marblo® is ideally suited for premium retail & commercial environments.

Jo Irwin

What was your vision behind the Mojo series?
To design an elegant, almost sculptural range of basins that would stand the test of time, and yet be functional in day-to-day use.

What limitation or freedom did designing in Marblo® bring to you?
By using Marblo®, it enabled me to work closely on the detail that was integral to the overall design; elegant fine edges complimented by a smooth, silky finish.

What do you see next for the Mojo Series?
The new series will be a progression of the first series – yet more versatile in its application, form and function.

About Jo
My design philosophy is to ‘please’ both the client yet the ‘eye’, when achieved it gives a great sense of satisfaction. It’s about form and function, striving to achieve that balance between cutting edge and timelessness. Company Background

In Brief

A polymer-based hybrid ‘Solid Surface material’ invented in 1979, Marblo® was originally created to provide new levels of performance in laboratory and kitchen bench top applications. Today our products are used in a myriad of residential, commercial, retail and hospitality environments.

At the launch of Marblo® materials, our maxim was and to this day remains, “Freedom of Imagination”. By way of on-going research and product development, day-by-day we are coming closer to attaining this aim.

Commitment to Innovation

A passionate commitment to product and manufacturing innovation is at the heart of our company. At Marblo, we keep abreast of changing trends and aspirations of the design community. The inspiration and vision of architects & designers, combined with Marblo’s commitment to product advancement has led to a number of world first developments within the solid surface industry.

All Marblo® research and development is driven by the needs of the architects, designers and customers that specify and use our products.

Commitment to the Environment

All Marblo® materials enjoy extended life-of-use as compared to most interiors materials. Marblo® can be easily repaired and refinished back to its original condition, reducing the need to replace or dispose of it. It can also be removed, re-cut and either reinstalled as a new design or seamlessly reworked into new products, reducing demand for virgin materials and reducing waste.

Marblo® sheet materials and cured adhesives all have low-VOC (volatile organic compound) content, are low-emitting and are nontoxic and non-allergenic to humans.

Commitment to Customers

Marblo® solid surface sheet products are supplied with a 10-year limited warranty to ensure peace of mind for our customers.

Commitment to Quality

Any product bearing the name “Marblo®” has been made in accordance with our stringent specifications and strict guidelines. By maintaining the highest levels of governance we are confident that all Marblo® materials meet the high standards we have set for ourselves.

Only trained and accredited fabricators can purchase and work raw Marblo® solid surface sheets. Accredited fabricator arrangements ensure our clients receive only the highest quality, best value materials and service the market has to offer.
